9. Regulation of the Body

Video Transcript: "Regulation of the body" refers to the adjustment of body postures and some slow-movements or stretches. The postures commonly adopted are the plain sitting, standing, supine lying, the knee-crossing posture, and walking. They are essential to practice various forms of Qigong exercise or to attain their desirable effects. For example, sitting or lying down is suitable for most forms of quiescent Qigong, that provides a secure and relaxing posture to induce mental tranquilization, while standing or walking postures are suitable for most forms of dynamic Qigong, such as eight-section of brocade or tai-chi chuan. Besides, correct postures are the preconditions to guarantee smooth respiration or special breathing pattern. When practicing Tiding Qigong for weight control, standing or lying down postures are easier to do than sitting, to perform its counter-abdominal respiration.
