Tai Chi; Supreme Ultimate Energy

Tai Chi was developed by farmers as a physical exercise and for combat, approximately 2500 years ago in China. They used farm tools to train in weapons, as only soldiers were allowed real weapons. This is how Tai Chi 'Ch'uan began. There are three styles; Chen, Wu, and Yang. Chen is the oldest and Yang the most common in the Western World. About 1500 years ago the healing benefits were being taught within the short and long dance or form. Included in the healing benefits are the slow gentle movements for maximum movement of joints, muscle, blood flow, stimulation of the meridian system, and Chi. It also promotes balance.

Tai Chi is taught in comfortable clothing, socks or cloth soled Tai Chi shoes. The dance can be performed sitting, standing, or even lying down. No prior martial arts training are required. People with disabilities can do it. Reading is not required for this class.

The slow graceful movements of the "dance" stimulate muscles that are associated to the twelve main meridians and eight submeridians. The dance is considered a moving meditation and is practiced by young and old.
